AUGUST 2024 TALK
Our August 2024 talk was a multi-member event and the last in our summer section of short member presentations. Bob Wickens spoke about Meteorites, Dawn Sexton presented Features in the Sky and Peter Hudson spoke about The Sun.
JULY 2024 TALK

July saw another of our summer members talks from Phil Schneider
30 inch UPDATE
UPDATE on the 30 inch … which has had its first light at its new home in La Palma. This weekend (July 6), it has afforded excellent views of M22, The Lagoon, Trifid and M57. But it now seems a taller ladder is required to get more of those higher objects !
JUNE 2024 TALK
Our June monthly talk saw not one but two specialists from the Open University. First, Dr Rachael Hamp spoke about the “Icy Moons of Saturn” then Dr Peter Peter Fawdon updated us on the “Exo Mars Mission“.
BBC SKY AT NIGHT RETURNS
Making a return to Bedford School for the first of two segments in the BBC Sky at Night, Pete Lawrence was recording at the observatory in May. Continuing our Quarry Theatre talks, we welcomed Dr Peter Grimley who presented a talk on “The High Energy Universe”. Covering the scattering of energy by the atmosphere and the techniques for measuring the captures particles.

For the final talk in the Old Theatre at Bedford School, our own Phil Schneider talked about “Unistellar Telescopes & Citizen Science“. Phil kindly bought along his own Unistellar imaging telescope to allow us to see for ourselves this remarkable piece of equipment along with some stunning images he had taken with it.
