Remembering Phil Stone

With the help of Peter and Gilly Ashwell, the society has planted a Magnolia Stellata shrub in memory of our dear friend Phil Stone. Phil sadly passed away in early 2024 and it felt fitting that we should remember him with this shrub on the observatory site.

Peter and Gilly, with assistance and invaluable help from Peter Truscott, Maya Vorolier and much needed muscle from Darren Jehan and Dave Eagle, cut back overgrown bushes to neaten up the plot. Darren and Dave dug out some well rooted prickly Mahonia that birds had probably brought in. This then created space for the Magnolia Stellata shrub to be positioned adjust to the Resource Room door, and on competition the helpers were rewarded for their efforts with tea, coffee and cake served by Gilly.
