At the meeting on September 30th, the Society awarded Phil Stone with an Honorary Membership in recognition of his many years of service to the Society.
Phil actually built the observatory that BAS and Bedford School makes full use of, as well as the planetarium projector, enjoyed by countless members of the public when they come to the Observatory for the planetarium shows.
He is always on hand to open the Resource Room or man the telescopes for the observing sessions, making sure that everyone gets a chance to view the objects on show at the time. He is always cheery and polite, and always happy to discuss all aspects of astronomy.
Phil can be seen with Chairman Peter Hudson receiving his award, and with a giant biscuit, baked especially for him by Doreen Wickens!
On behalf of the Committee and of all the Members – thank you, Phil!
