Member Benefits

As a BAS member, you have the ability to borrow one of the society telescopes or binoculars, or borrow books, CDs or DVDs from our library. Our library is available to view in the Wolfson Resource Room – please ask a member of the committee if you would like to browse the library.

As a member you will be entitled to borrow one of the following. Training is available if required – please mention when discussing your needs:

  • One Sky-Watcher 200mm (8 inch) dobsonian
  • One Sky-Watcher 150mm (6 inch) dobsonian
  • Two Coronado PST Solar Telescopes
  • One Sky-Watcher 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain

Telescopes come with suitable mounts, eyepieces and training on operation is available. This is advised for the Solar telescope if you have never used one before.

Monthly Speaker Meetings

Every month, on the last Wednesday, we hold a speaker meeting and your membership entitles you to attend these meetings, Talks cover a variety of topics, and when in the Old Theatre or Biology Lab, there are refreshments to be had too!

All members are encouraged to come along to the observing sessions that are run through the year – from the regular October-April weekly sessions, to special viewing events – all, of course, dependent on the weather!
